Portrait of Gainesville

In October, I'll hang my newest series of paintings at The Bull Downtown. I've called it "A Portrait of Gainesville" for lack of a better name. Since moving here in '05, I've wanted to paint some of the spaces that I've found interesting - the things that make this town stand out in my mind. Mostly it's the small things that I started to notice: signs, store fronts, a section of street. Most people think that the place where they live is the BEST place, filled with the MOST UNIQUE people. The reality is that Gainesville is no more or less special than Miami or Asheville or any of the other places that I've spent time. But it's those little things that I enjoy, the little out of the way places my family loves, and the little group of friends that I've made that make this place the BEST place for me...until, of course my family and I move to the next BEST place.
